Increase your Willpower

           ðŸ‘‰Title : Increase your willpower
            👉 Dr. Vaibhavi Trivedi

👉 Abstract :

Many people have an intuitive sense of what this willpower is but lack the scientific knowledge to understand the forces that undermine it.
How can we work with willpower instead of against its stubborn nature?
They say knowledge is power, and in this case, knowledge is willpower.

People use different definitions to describe willpower, but some of the most common synonyms are: drive, determination, self-discipline, self-control, self-regulation, effortful control.
At the core of willpower is the ability to resist short-term temptations and desires in order to achieve long-term goals. It’s the prevailing source of long-term satisfaction over instant gratification.

The “I will, I won’t and I want powers” that comprise willpower draw on different parts of the PFC. The brain region near the upper left side is responsible for the “I will power,” helping you start and stick with not so fun or stressful tasks...

Willpower ðŸ—―ðŸ›Ŧ

I always thought that the restless mind was something, and therefore not useful in meditation.  But not!  It takes a lot of effort to become conscious, and requires great will power to break out of our unconscious habits.  Most of the time we are eye-to-eye following our unconscious senses - we direct our bodies to us when we should eat and sleep.  We are governed by our bodies, and because of this, we will never know that we are more than our bodies, more than our senses it tells us to experience being greater than our bodies, we must develop a strong will.  First we have to crystalize a strong desire, then later we have to leave it, we have used it to be conscious.

👉 How to develop this willpower?🗞ðŸ›Ŧ

You have to do small experiments every now and then... very small experiments, in which you declare that you are separate from your body.  All religions developed these types of experiments, but almost all these experiments, when placed in the hands of foolish people, become useless.  Fasting was an experiment that was developed with the intention of giving birth to giving birth to people.  If someone is able to say with all his strength, "No, I don't want to eat," the body will be demanding right away. And when you first discover that you have a separate existence from your body, a new energy, a  A new power is born, a new power begins in you.

The body is sleepy and you say no, I don't want to go to sleep yet. And if it's total, if you did it with all its fullness  If said, the body will immediately give up its desire to sleep. You will suddenly feel that you are no longer feeling sleepy, you are feeling wide awake. But we never experiment about this in this life. We  We never try to act separately from the body. We do silent things that tell the body to tell us. I am not saying that you should not meet what the body asks. But at the same time it is for you sometimes  It is necessary to experience, for a few moments, to separate from the body. And once you have this experience of separation from the body - you have a body that is different from you - you  Be surprised  That day your will power begins to take control of your senses.  Gurjajif was a very unique master who used to make a small experiment with his disciples.

It was a very small experiment, and if you do, you will also know what kind of experience it is.  He calls this experiment a stop exercise.  He would tell his disciples, I would suddenly shout, 'Stop!'  And then you should stop immediately where you are and whatever you are doing, and completely freeze.  If someone has raised their hand and I shout 'stop', the hand should be stopped immediately.  And if someone's eyes are open, let them be open;  If someone has their mouth open to speak, it should be open;  And if someone has raised their foot to walk, one leg is raised in the air and the other on the earth.  'Closed' means stop completely and stabilize it in whatever condition you are in. And on those seekers he was doing this little experiment for two, three months ...

During this experiment he found that by the time he closed the body, the body would tell them, put the feet down;  The eye will say that you should blink now;  Lips say we all close but they will ignore certain parts of the body and freeze completely - they will not blink their eyes;  Nor put your feet down;  Nor close the lips - they will become just like an idol. After using this for a few months, they realize that there is another in the body, which they want, can command the body to act according to its wishes.  is.  Have you ever ordered your body?  Have you ever placed an order?  You are only receiving orders;  You have never ordered right now. It is only one way traffic. The body is doing all the orders, and you are all obedient and have very dangerous consequences.

The biggest result is that you have completely forgotten that you have such a thing as will and will be in you!  And someone who is not someone, can never be supreme. Being a soul would mean but we ask our senses, please tell us what we should do.  From birth to death we ask our senses, what should we do?  And tell the senses what to do, and we go on following them.  This is why we will never be able to experience anything that is greater than the body.  The experience of the soul begins with the will-power. It is only with the power-power that the journey to the Supreme begins…

👉How to increase your will power ðŸ—―ðŸ›Ŧ

ðŸŽŊ Willpower is like a muscle - in more ways than one.

A growing body of evidence indicates that willpower and self-control are essential for a happy and successful life.  The most persuasive evidence comes from two studies that measure younger children's self-control, and then take care of them as they grow up into adults.

In a second study, 1,000 children were tracked from birth to age 32.  Researchers found that childhood self-control predicted physical health, substance dependence, personal finances, and criminal offenses.  This was true even when other factors such as intelligence and social class were similar.  They even compared sibling pairs and found that each couple with low self-control had poor outcomes despite the shared family background of siblings.

ðŸ‘‰ So how can you improve your will power? ðŸ›ŦðŸ—―

ðŸŽŊ Use it or lose it, but don't exceed it...

👉 You undoubtedly already know these facts about muscles:

Muscles become stronger by exercising.  Muscles can be overworked, leaving them vulnerable until they have a chance to recover.

ðŸŽŊ   What you may not know is that these things are also true about willpower.

In one study, participants were instructed to try not to think of a white bear.  In this way thought-suppression tasks require a good deal of self-control.  After completing the task, they were asked to limit their intake of beer during the taste test as the driving test would follow.  These participants drank much more beer than other participants who did not perform the thought-suppression task.

In another study, people who were asked to suppress their emotions while watching a disturbing film soon gave up on a later test of physical endurance, allowing people to openly respond to the film's emotional impact  Used to give  In a third study, women watched a nature documentary while sitting next to or around the room from a bowl of candy.  Later, they were given impossible puzzles to solve.  Those who sat near Kandy while watching the film gave up sooner than the women who were seated away from Kandy.  The temptation in that vicinity attempted to resist the ardent will, which soon led these women to a stressful task.

In each of these cases, people found it difficult to raise slogans through difficult tasks when their willpower was reduced.  But will can also be strengthened.  Like this.

ðŸ‘‰ How to strengthen your will power

Do not put yourself in a position of lack of strong will
Weight-lifting is a great way to build muscle.  But you can't lift a weight just half an hour before helping a friend move her furniture because you know that your muscles will also be tired to do a good job.  Neither would you spend hours lifting daily weights with no recovery time.  The same holds for willpower.  Practicing self-control wisely is a great way to build willpower, never giving yourself a break is a good way to fulfill your resolve.

In sports, coaches and coaches often differentiate between comfort zones and stretch zones.  If you are comfortable running a 10-minute mile, then increasing your speed for 9 minutes puts you in your stretch zone.  There is a good choice between the two to improve their performance.  But staying in your stretch zone indefinitely is not a good idea.  The risk of injury increases and your performance will suffer due to lack of long-term recovery.

He has the will.  Use your imagination Imagination is a powerful technique for improving willpower.  The body often reacts to imagined situations in the same way it reacts to experienced people.  If you fancy lying on a quiet beach, listening to the waves, gently licking the shore and savoring the salty sea air, your body will react comfortably.  If instead, you imagine being late for an important meeting, your body will stress in response.  You can use this to your advantage in building willpower.

For example, as willpower experts point out, dieting is a tool to keep oneself in a bad state.  As a result, the dieter feels everything more intensely - from small irritations to food or rest.  But imagination can blunt the cry that destroys your self-control.

In one study, participants were asked to watch a movie, and a bowl of chocolate candy was placed nearby.  One group was told to imagine that they had decided to eat as much as they wanted, the other group was told to imagine that they had decided not to eat anything, and a third group had imagined  Asked that he decide to eat them later.  The first group actually ate more food than the other two groups.  But when later given the opportunity to eat candy, those who imagined they would delay eating candy actually ate significantly less than the other two groups.  They also reported having little desire for candy when queried the next day via email.

Think of something else "Try this task for yourself: don't think of a polar bear, and you'll see that every minute the damned thing comes to mind."  How do you avoid thinking about a white bear (or any other situation that bothers you or fills you with fear)?  Train yourself to think about something else: Every time a white bear starts to lurk in your consciousness, think of a black bear instead.  Every time an unwanted thought threatens to intrude on your consciousness, think of something pleasant instead.  It puts you on the driver's seat of your thoughts...

Do not underestimate this simple technique.  In Menthel's famous Marshmallow study, "high delayers" resisted eating marshmallows by distracting themselves, such as covering their eyes with their hands or moving around in their chairs so that they could not see the seductive object, or themselves.  Can sing  Good habits;  You will need them when stressed In a previous post, I discussed the effect that stress has on the body.  Stress also strongly reduces willpower....

When people are stressed, they fall back to restrained habits - whether those habits are helpful or harmful.  Often, this is not a conscious choice.  Rather, people resort to deliberate old habits because they are in a state of tension.  Art Markman discussed this in more detail in a recent post.

For example, imagine that you will have an important exam or professional presentation tomorrow.  Your grade in the course or your chance for promotion depends entirely on how you perform.  These are highly stressful situations, and your body will react by promoting stress hormones, especially cortisol.

How to answer Cortisol increases cravings for carbohydrates because, as we saw, low cortisol levels increase.  Then perhaps you will be comforted with your friends Ben and Jerry.  But the downside of dealing with stress in this way is that in the long run, you risk obesity, diabetes and heart disease.  Alcohol is a depressant that reduces cortisol.  But taking this route puts you at risk for alcoholism.  Every time you respond to cortisol increase through unhealthy means, you strengthen those habits.  It virtually guarantees that in times of stress, you will retreat from these habits.

Fortunately for us, knowledge is power.  Deal with stress-induced upsurge in cortisol and you will manage your treatment for sugar or alcohol.  Almost anything that counteracts a fight-or-flight response will do the trick.  So start responding to mild stressors with healthier options, such as listening to calming music, imagining or watching serene scenes, moderate exercise - whatever works for you.  In fact, using comedy videos and surprise gifts, researchers demonstrated that inducing a good mood can overcome willful-attenuation effects.

The more you strengthen these habits, the more likely they are to protect you when a major stressor comes along.  one step at a time Often, people give up not because they lack the willpower, but because they feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the goal that they must accomplish.  A good way to deal with this feeling of overwhelm is to break the goals into manageable pieces and line them up in a sequence that guarantees success.

A journalist friend of mine (who is constantly facing impossible deadlines) once described her strategy as: "Here's how I do it," he said.  "It likes to eat an elephant - one bite at a time, and you are not allowed to see how much is left."

When I stopped laughing at the image, it occurred to me that this was exactly the advice another friend gave me to improve my running distance: Run as many intervals as you can now  , He advised, then set a goal, adding just one more lap each week.  Following this advice, my daily runs increased from one half mile to three miles in a few months.

The beauty of this strategy is that it not only guarantees success, it guarantees that you will never put yourself in a position of lack of willpower.  As you reach each sub-goal, you will gain a huge sense of satisfaction and pride in yourself, making it much easier to deal with the next one.  When you reach the end goal, you are likely to feel a sense of abundance and strength rather than a more specific response of "I'm so tired, I can sleep for a week".

It takes an enormous amount of effort to suppress your normal personality, preferences and behaviors.  Not surprisingly, doing so causes a decrease in willpower.  Psychologist Mark Muraven and colleagues found that people who practice such self-control to please others end up more easily than those who are true to their inner goals and desires.  Huh.  When it comes to willpower, people-happy individuals may find themselves at a disadvantage compared to being safer and comfortable than themselves.

Do not tempt yourself, or if you make a plan I don't care much for most types of candy, but, like most women, chocolate is a different matter.  I cannot and will not keep it at home.  When my children brought treat-or-treat candy from home, my husband had strict orders to hide the chocolate, where I could not find it.  My side of the contract was not to seek it nor to ask for it.  Knowing my weakness, I made a plan.  And it has worked for years.

As Beumister points out, "low-willed people use it to get themselves out of crises. High-willed people use it to not get themselves in trouble."  Avoid places that will tax your willpower.  If you can't escape the temptation, then make a plan for what you are going to do instead of being successful....
